Collection: Designed by Women
Women have designed posters for as long as the art form has existed. Their contributions to the field, often overlooked, deserve our full attention.
Even today, when more women than men are entering the graphic design field, there are few well-known female poster designers.
And yet, even this small selection of posters shows the range of female talent in the field.
Berlin-based graphic designer Svenja Prigge has created a project called Posterwomxn, an online community working to promote the work of women poster designers.
Design museums have also taken up the cause, and over the last several years a number of exhibitions have focused on posters designed by women. In 2019, The London Transport Museum’s exhibition Poster Girls showcased posters designed by women for the London Underground. In 2022 the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, the renowned Swiss design museum, organized “Königinnendisziplin” (Queens of their Discipline – Posters by Women Designers), an exhibition showcasing the work of 75 female designers from the early 20th century to the present.
These are important first steps toward a full recognition of women in the poster world.
