Russian graphic designer Dima Kavko (1974-) participated in the Moscow design collective Ostengruppe from 2003 to 2008. At a time when Russian graphic design was struggling to find a new post-Soviet identity, the Ostengruppe designers produced large numbers of cultural and political posters in an original and expressive style. Kavko’s posters have been awarded prizes at numerous international poster competitions.
In this poster for a Japanese cultural festival, Kavko creates complex layers of hand-drawn and computer-generated type and images. If you look closely you’ll find small samurai figures playfully placed throughout the image.
