Niklaus Troxler (1947- ), a giant of Swiss graphic design, works with unusual layouts, clever illustration and expressive typography. He avoids the rigid grids and standardized typography favored by many of his Swiss predecessors. His poster designs, particularly his posters for the jazz festival he organized for many years in his hometown of Willisau, Switzerland, have won him international awards and recognition.
Troxler designed this poster for PUBLIC, a San Francisco bicycle company. The company invited 27 international designers to interpret, in poster form, the concept of public space for pedestrians and cyclists. Troxler’s dynamic composition conveys the speed and movement of riders on a bicycle path.
