Niklaus Troxler (1947- ), a giant of Swiss graphic design, works with unusual layouts, clever illustration and expressive typography. He avoids the rigid grids and standardized typography favored by many of his Swiss predecessors. His poster designs, particularly his posters for the jazz festival he organized for many years in his hometown of Willisau, Switzerland, have won him international awards and recognition.

Troxler continually finds innovative ways to express the movement and rhythm of jazz through image and typography. In this recent poster for the AMR Jazz Festival in Geneva, Troxler arranges basic shapes to construct instruments and to evoke the feel of jazz music.
