Niklaus Troxler (1947- ), a giant of Swiss graphic design, works with unusual layouts, clever illustration and expressive typography. He avoids the rigid grids and standardized typography favored by many of his Swiss predecessors. His poster designs, particularly his posters for the jazz festival he organized for many years in his hometown of Willisau, Switzerland, have won him international awards and recognition.

Troxler continually finds innovative ways to express the movement and rhythm of jazz through image and typography. In this poster for the performance of a solo percussionist, the lines and circles representing the drums and drumsticks merge with the typography, creating a swirling, immersive semblance of percussive sound.
