Swiss graphic designer Max Huber (1919-1992), who trained in Zurich but worked in Milan, designed this poster for an Oskar Schlemmer exhibition at the Museo Comunale d’Arte Moderna in Ascona, Italy. Schlemmer, who led the theater workshop at the Bauhaus, focused his work both as a visual artist and a choreographer around explorations of the human form, and is particularly known for his stylized renderings of faces. Fittingly, Huber’s poster celebrating Schlemmer combines three versions of a face – a photograph of Schlemmer’s own face, a mask, and the distinctive geometricized profile in the 1922 logo Schlemmer designed for the Bauhaus.
