Dick Elffers (1910-1990) trained as a graphic designer in the Netherlands and also worked in many areas of the fine arts. Elffers referred to his richly-colored posters as “street paintings”.
For many years, Elffers designed the posters for the Holland Festival, a performing arts festival held annually in the Netherlands since 1947. In this example from 1965, Elffers references the festival’s musical offerings with a keyboard image and the visual arts events with a striking eye in an abstract face.
