Dutch designer Geert Paul Hendrikus Schuitema (1897-1973) worked in the fields of graphic design, furniture design, photography, film and painting. Schuitema’s work was influenced by the early modernist principles of de Stijl, the Bauhaus and Constructivism. In his graphic designs he used the modernist hallmarks of sans serif typography, diagonal layouts, and the preferred color combination of black, white and red.

This striking poster for an exhibition of Soviet architecture and urban design is a late example of Schuitema’s work.
