Katsumi Asaba (1940 -) is an acclaimed Japanese art director and design educator.
Asaba designed this powerful poster for a series sponsored by the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation. Every year, the Foundation invites a prominent Japanese graphic designer to create a poster addressing the theme of the bomb and world peace. Asaba's work is entitled “8:15; the time we must never forget” and the poster includes his own handprint in blue superimposed over an image of a pocket watch. The watch, from the collection of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, lost its hands and numbers in the nuclear explosion that occured at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945.
The poster is hand-signed by the designer.
